This fund sponsors the annual Skanda Shashti celebrations at Kadavul Hindu Temple in Hawaii, upkeep of the San Marga Murugan shrines and the development of Shum, Gurudeva's language of meditation. The Story of the Lord Muruga Shum Fund By Sadhunatha Nadesan Lord Muruga was actually the first Hindu Diety I encountered as a vision. This was in India, near the time we were visiting Palani Hills Murugan temple, on the Indian Odyssey. We we staying in the home of a local resident. He came through the wall .. appearing small in size, but the effect was transforming. So I became a devotee of Lord Skanda at that moment. Later, in Hawaii, we had multiple experiences with The Lord including, a retaking of our wedding vows at his shrine on San Marga. It pained me to see the dilapidated state of his abode there. So when HHE was created that was the genesis, to see funds for maintenance. Also, we always enjoyed the homa at Skanda Shasty, it was always a special time of year for us. For example, one year, we had gone with a group out to San Marga on Skanda Shasty for something or other - I forget - but what I remember is that the skies remained clear until the moment we got back to the shelter of the aadehenam - at which point, it poured. It's always a rainy time of year on Kauai around Skanda Shasty time. And then I heard that the annual homa was going to be canceled, so that was the 2nd reason for the fund. It was one of the first funds, #10. Gurudeva came to me and said he wanted to add an additional use of the fund: preservation and promotion of the Shum language. I had previously embraced Shum .. trying some days to speak only Shum. I had been with Gurudeva in Ascona Switzerland on the Actinics World Tour. It was at Ascona that Shum later came through. Shum was also dear to my heart too so I readily agreed. Hence, it was named the Nadesan Family Lord Muruga Shum Fund. Kauai, Hawaii, USA Fund #10 |
